Scholz's party intends to keep him as the candidate for chancellor in the upcoming elections.

The Social Democratic Party of Germany intends to nominate the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz as its candidate for the upcoming elections.

The Social Democratic Party of Germany intends to retain the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz as its candidate for the upcoming elections.

As reported by Tagesschau, this was stated by the party's co-chair Saskia Esken, according to "European Truth".

Esken emphasized that the SPD is determined to keep Olaf Scholz as their "top choice" despite the disappointing ratings.

"We are convinced that together with him, we can achieve victory in these federal elections," she said.

Esken reiterated that the party supports the idea of a confidence vote for the government in January, as Scholz wishes.

"We believe that during the few weeks before the Christmas-winter break, it is essential to implement important projects," she noted, adding that if the current government were to face a vote of no confidence in the near future, all decisions would be made "in campaign mode," which would not be beneficial.

Recall that on the evening of November 6, the parties of the ruling coalition in Germany finally fell out over disagreements on how to address the country's economic issues. Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed the finance minister, the leader of the "Free Democrats," with whom there were the most disputes.

Polls indicate that more than half of Germans support early elections. Additionally, surveys predict a better outcome for the main opposition party, the Christian Democratic Union.
