European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke with newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, particularly regarding the defense of Ukraine.
She wrote this on X (Twitter), as reported by "European Truth".
Ursula von der Leyen anticipates "strengthening ties between the EU and the U.S. and collaborative efforts to address geopolitical challenges".
"We discussed defense and Ukraine, trade, and energy. Together, we can foster prosperity and stability on both sides of the Atlantic," she stated.
Previously, following the European Political Community summit in Budapest, President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his belief that Trump wants a swift end to the war, but this could imply losses for Ukraine.
He also shared with European leaders about his phone conversation with Trump.
