As a result of debris from an enemy drone falling on a house in the Pechersk district on the night of January 1, 2025, renowned neurobiologist Igor Zima and his wife, biologist Olesya Sokur, lost their lives.

This was reported by family friends, the first secretary at the Ukrainian embassy in the Republic of Kenya, Alexey Bobrovnikov, and his wife, Darya Tretyakova-Dushechkina.

“On 01/01/25, during the first drone attack on Kyiv in 2025, our friend, an outstanding individual, Doctor of Sciences Igor Zima, perished along with his family: together with his wife and their cat. They were simply at home. In bed. We would have likely celebrated the New Year at their place,” Tretyakova-Dushechkina stated.
