Mangold decided to cast Timothy Chalamet for the live performance after being impressed by the actor's performance in the film "Bob Dylan: A Complete Unknown".

This is not a typical biographical film, as Mangold states, because the story is not tied to Dylan's birth and life history.

Instead, the film focuses on Dylan and the folk scene in New York during that time.

Mangold told the audience at WGA during a post-screening event in Beverly Hills on Friday night:

“Another advantage was that between 1961 and 1965, he wrote all the songs featured in this film— and this guy was not even 24 years old when the film concludes. This is just a tenth of the songs he wrote during that period.”

In other instances, the sound engineering team utilized 40 different period-appropriate practical microphones.

Meitland explained: “The idea was to capture a slightly different sound in each location using practical microphones from that era. This helped create a beautiful soundscape. But Timmy was 100% live. It was quite remarkable.”

The lead music editor, Ted Kaplan, noted that although the film does not feature complete performances or song segments, each was recorded “from start to finish.”
