The United States may hold negotiations with Lebanese officials regarding a ceasefire with Israel, and for this purpose, the U.S. special envoy will arrive in Beirut.
This was reported by the Reuters agency, citing two unnamed sources.
According to the sources, U.S. special envoy Amos Hochstein is set to arrive in the Lebanese capital on October 21.
It is worth noting that the publication Axios, referencing information from two U.S. officials and two Israeli officials, stated that prior to the visit, Israel had presented a plan to the White House for a diplomatic resolution to the war with Lebanese "Hezbollah".
This document was reportedly received by Hochstein on October 17 from Israel's Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.
According to the sources, the document contains just two requirements:
At the same time, an unnamed U.S. representative noted that Lebanon and the international community are unlikely to accept Israel's conditions.
It was reported earlier that the U.S. is investigating the leak of potential intelligence information regarding Israel's plans to take action in response to Iran's actions.
On Monday, October 21, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that American forces delivered their advanced missile defense system THAAD to Israel.
This occurred against the backdrop of Iran launching approximately 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel on October 1 in retaliation for the killing of Tehran-backed militants' leaders in Lebanon. Following this, the White House stated that Tehran would face serious consequences due to the large-scale missile attack on Israel.
