The Portuguese Navy has been monitoring five Russian military vessels that have been passing or are currently passing near the country's shores for several days.
As reported by "European Truth," this was announced on social media by the Portuguese Navy on January 3.
The Portuguese fleet has been escorting the five Russian ships since December 31. These include the landing ship "Alexander Shabalin," the logistical support vessels Baltic Leader, "Sparta II," and "General Skobelev," which are currently in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the submarine "Novorossiysk," which is moving along the country's exclusive economic zone.

This observation marks the 73rd monitoring mission of the fleet in 2024.
"This Fleet activity for monitoring and observation ensures the protection and security of the maritime space over which our national sovereignty, jurisdiction, and responsibility extend. It contributes to safeguarding Portugal's interests and its critical infrastructure while ensuring compliance with our international obligations within the framework of the North Atlantic Alliance," the statement noted.
Earlier, it was reported that from December 23 to 29, NATO fighter jets patrolling the Baltic States conducted two sorties to escort Russian aircraft.
It was also reported that Polish fishermen are experiencing GPS disruptions in the Baltic Sea.
