American military forces did not take part in the Israeli operation to eliminate Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar; however, U.S. intelligence provided information regarding the locations of Hamas leaders.
This was stated by U.S. Department of Defense spokesperson Major General Pat Ryder, as reported by "European Truth".
As Ryder emphasized, this was an Israeli operation in which U.S. military personnel were not directly involved.
"The U.S. assisted in providing information and intelligence related to the release of hostages and tracking Hamas leaders responsible for holding hostages. And, of course, this contributes to the overall understanding of the situation," Ryder stated.
Ryder also commented on the arrival of the American THAAD battery to bolster Israel's air defense system. He noted that components of this weapon have started arriving in the country.
"It will be operationally ready in the near future. I won't go into specific dates for Operation 'Security.' I will say that it has been integrated into Israeli air defense, as well as into our broader U.S. efforts at the regional level to support Israel's defense," he concluded.
Recall that in August, the Hamas group announced Yahya Sinwar as its leader instead of Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed during a raid on his residence in Tehran on the morning of July 31.
On Thursday, Israel reported the elimination of Sinwar during an operation in Gaza.
Afterward, U.S. President Joe Biden stated that the American side supported the operation of the Israel Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip.
