Previously, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the need to extend the effective experience of layered air defense systems to a greater number of regions.
Military-political analyst Alexander Kovalenko from the "Information Resistance" group discussed the potential for creating a layered air defense system in Ukraine during a broadcast on "Pravda." According to the expert, we currently lack the necessary resources for this.
"A layered air defense system is the ideal option for protecting almost all million-plus cities and creating a buffer zone through which no strike weapon, whether it be a subsonic cruise missile, a supersonic ballistic missile, a hypersonic aero-ballistic missile, or even kamikaze drones and reconnaissance drones, could pass," stated Alexander Kovalenko.
The military expert explained that such a buffer zone is formed through the use of air defense systems with short, medium, and long-range capabilities, densely positioned while considering all characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages, as well as auxiliary elements like electronic warfare systems and even aviation.
"But we currently do not have the capability to establish it. More or less, a layered air defense system is only present in one region of Ukraine today – Kyiv region, which includes the capital, Kyiv; in others, it is absent," Kovalenko added.
