The Ukrainian city of Selydove could become a strategic military site for Russian occupants if captured.
This was stated by military expert Alexey Hetman during a broadcast on "Hromadske Radio," noting that Selydove's uniqueness lies in the fact that it has not suffered significant destruction from artillery shelling, unlike other cities in Donbas, such as Avdiivka or Bakhmut. According to the expert, the preservation of infrastructure may indicate the occupiers' plans to use this city for establishing headquarters and storage facilities.
Hetman emphasizes that Selydove is strategically located, although it is situated in a lowland area, which diminishes its tactical value. However, this allows the city to be set up as a base for further advances and control over local logistics routes. The military expert adds that control over Selydove could significantly ease the supply of ammunition and ensure stable logistics for Russian forces.
He also pointed out that Russian troops are preparing for challenging winter weather conditions, when movement across fields will become impossible.
"Rain will start soon, and winter is coming. And we have thaws during winter. It will be practically impossible to move across the fields. It is necessary to control the roads that can be used for transport and supply of essential goods. Even if these roads are damaged, they are still better than traveling through fields and mud. This is what they will be fighting for," the expert notes.
