On the beach of El Sablón in the small town of Llanes (Spain), a giant squid measuring 10 meters in length was discovered. There are only 21 such creatures in the world, writes Antena.

The animal was found on Friday, October 11, and sparked excitement among local scientists. Architeuthis Dux — more commonly known as the "giant squid" — is extremely difficult to observe in its natural habitat, as it resides in the depths of the oceans. It can grow up to 17 meters long and weigh 300 kg, making it one of the largest squid species on the planet. A total of 21 specimens have been recorded, most of which inhabit the Cantabrian Sea.

The squid is compared to the famous kraken — a creature from Scandinavian mythology that could sink ships with its enormous tentacles. However, in reality, the giant squid is relatively harmless to humans, but it should not be consumed due to the high ammonia content in its muscle tissue.

The Cantabrian Sea is one of the few places on Earth where these animals live. This is why it attracts the interest of scientists studying this squid species. The reason for the squid's presence on the shore in Llanes remains unknown. Biologists speculate that it may be due to changes in ocean currents or alterations in underwater ecosystem conditions.

It is worth noting that at the end of September, scientists managed to encounter an elusive deep-sea squid in the Tonga Trench in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, which was strolling along the seafloor on its long, slender "arms." As a result, they were able to capture rare footage of this sea monster with appendages several times longer than its body.

Additionally, it was reported that a whip squid was spotted at a depth of 1000 meters in the Tonga Trench. They are known for their two long, thin tentacles resembling a whip.
