Perfectly round hole in the swamps of Argentina: the emergence of the mysterious floating island.

The history of Earth spans 4.5 billion years, during which numerous unusual locations have emerged on the planet. One such place is the mysterious floating island El Ojo, situated in the wetlands of Argentina, as reported by Live Science.

This floating island appears so enigmatic that some consider it a haven for UFOs or the spirits of ancient deities. However, scientists have a different perspective — researchers believe that the floating island is merely a natural phenomenon. They also suggest that the island formed as a result of erosion and water currents.

El Ojo is a mysterious uninhabited floating island located in the swampy delta of the Parana River in Argentina. Its name translates to "eye," derived from its striking resemblance to a perfectly round oculus when viewed from above.

The island caught the attention of filmmakers back in 2016 while researching material for a documentary in the river delta. A film crew led by Argentine director Sergio Neuspiller flew over the island and were astonished by its appearance amidst the mowed vegetation of the delta.

According to Neuspiller, from a bird's-eye view, the island resembled a perfect circle. The water surrounding it appeared black, yet was completely transparent. Interestingly, this is a rare occurrence, as the waters in the river delta are usually murky, but the lake's bottom was dark and earthy.

In fact, the mysterious island floats in a crystal-clear lake, which is also circular in shape, just like the island itself. Researchers found that the island and the lake's shore have mutually shaped each other's smooth contours due to a slow, polishing process of erosion.

The diameter of the island is 118 meters. It is composed of plant materials and floats due to the current that encircles the lake, causing the circle to rotate on its axis and rub against the shores. This constant movement means that El Ojo has expanded the lake and shaped its edges into a perfect disc.

Researchers discovered that El Ojo moves clockwise; however, it remains unclear how and when the island first detached from the land. Nevertheless, it is known that it first appeared in satellite images only about 20 years ago.

Neuspiller's team also found that local residents were aware of the island's existence but tended to avoid it, believing that an ancient deity resided there. Other theories about the island suggest that it attracts unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and even conceals a Nazi base. However, none of these theories have substantial evidence.
