Zelensky believes Europe must undertake long-term efforts to achieve energy independence.

European countries must undertake long-term efforts to achieve genuine energy independence, and no European nation should rely on a single energy resource supplier, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

European countries must undertake long-term efforts to ensure genuine energy independence; no European nation should rely on a single energy supplier, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"We must ensure that no European country depends on a single energy supplier, especially not on Russia. Currently, everything is in our favor - President Trump is set to export more energy. However, Europe needs to ramp up its efforts and engage in more long-term work to secure real energy independence," Zelensky said while addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

The President of Ukraine emphasized the impossibility of continuing to purchase gas from Moscow while simultaneously expecting security guarantees, assistance, and cooperation from the United States.

"For instance, the Prime Minister of Slovakia is not eager to gain access to American gas but still hopes to benefit from the American 'security umbrella'," he explained.

Zelensky noted that Europe should have a seat at the negotiating table when deals regarding war and peace are made, and that it "deserves to be more than just a bystander when its leaders limit themselves to a post on X after an agreement has already been reached."
