The task of Ukraine in the energy sector is to adapt to the constant threat of terrorist attacks from the Russian Federation, and to build defenses for the energy system based on this situation, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Regarding protection. A tremendous amount of work has been done. We will not disclose any details. The closed appendix to this section of the Resilience Plan will contain information with appropriate access to maintain control over the processes. The task is clear. Thanks to all forms of protection, we must adapt to the ongoing threat of Russian terror. The responsibility for fulfilling this task is personal," emphasized the head of state during his presentation of the Resilience Plan in the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.
According to the president, the Russian army has already carried out over a thousand strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities.
"900 targeted Russian attacks on electricity transmission facilities. More than 220 targeted Russian attacks on generation facilities," he said, adding that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has occupied nearly 18 GW of energy capacity in Ukraine.
Zelensky highlighted that the section on energy is the most restricted "due to Russia's criminal intent to plunge Ukraine into blackout," but Ukrainians are doing everything possible to counteract such plans.
"Thus, the section 'Energy' is what provides any modern country with viability. This is a special section of the Resilience Plan. For security reasons, even less can be said about energy than about the front. The most important thing is gratitude. To every repair crew. To all the workers of our Ukrainian energy companies. To everyone in the world who is helping Ukraine overcome the consequences of Russian strikes on our energy sector," the president noted.
