Former Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu has once again spoken about "Romanian territories in Ukraine" and criticized President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he referred to as a "semi-dictator".
He made these comments during a broadcast on Realitatea Plus, as reported by "European Truth" citing Digi24.
Although the war against Ukraine was initiated by Vladimir Putin, Georgescu blames politicians in Kyiv for "stoking the conflict" that has led to "destabilization of the European economy".
Georgescu stated that he has "issues with the behavior" of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him a "semi-dictator".
"I hold the Ukrainian people in high regard with all my empathy and respect. We opened our borders and the doors of our homes to our neighbors. However, I have concerns about corruption and the false attitudes of politicians, including those in Kyiv," he said.
"I also have a problem with semi-dictators who prioritize their own interests and those of the group they represent over national interests. Therefore, I ask: why do Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Iohannis not allow free elections? Are they not afraid? How many times did Mr. Zelensky request dialogue before asking for weapons? Not once," Georgescu declared.
He also clarified his statement that "Ukraine is a fictional state".
"The fact that Ukraine is a state created by the will of great powers is a historical fact. This should not be considered a biased or slanderous statement. Even Germany redefined itself in 1989 with the fall of the wall, so this statement should be regarded not as an insult but as a historical truth that must be taken into account. Whatever decisions the great powers make, they still have the right to decide," Georgescu said.
He reiterated his comments about "Romanian territories in Ukraine" and mocked the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's reaction, which accused Georgescu of having "masters in Moscow".
"Regarding the mentions of Romanian territories in Ukraine, I am pleased to see the strong reaction from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, as it indicates that diplomats in Kyiv also felt how a statement can create national disappointment.
This is the same feeling experienced by tens of thousands of Romanians in Ukraine, teachers, families, and everyone together, when they see that they are not receiving significant respect for the language and history of the Romanian people, a people who opened their arms and hearts to waves of Ukrainian refugees," he said.
Previously, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed unwavering support for Ukrainian sovereignty following statements from the ultra-right pro-Russian Romanian politician Călin Georgescu.
