The generating company "DTEK VIE" has begun issuing guarantees of origin for electricity generated from renewable energy sources (GOOEE), the company reported on the energy holding's website on Thursday.
"Ukraine has embarked on the development of the market for guarantees of origin for electricity from renewable energy sources. We are confident that with each passing year, the interest of socially responsible businesses in guarantees of origin will only grow. As a result, this will increase the demand for electricity from renewable sources and stimulate the construction of new green energy facilities in the country," noted Alexander Selishchev, CEO of "DTEK VIE."
As the company reminded, any business interested in labeling its products as produced using renewable energy sources and possessing corresponding environmental value can be a buyer of "green" electricity (GOOEE). For export-oriented enterprises, this will provide additional competitiveness for their products, particularly in the EU market, where stricter environmental requirements are in place.
The government is also considering options to stimulate domestic demand for GOOEE for enterprise emissions. By purchasing guarantees of origin, they will have the opportunity to reduce their tax burden on CO2 emissions, as this will help decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
"At the same time, the development of international trade in "green" energy and, as a result, attracting additional international investments to Ukraine requires recognition of the guarantees of origin issued in Ukraine at the EU level. For such recognition, the government must meet the corresponding conditions outlined in the expected EU roadmap," emphasized "DTEK VIE."
The GOOEE is automatically formed in the corresponding registry based on certified data on the commercial accounting of electricity produced from renewable energy sources. The volume of guarantees of origin is issued to renewable energy producers based on the amount of electricity fed into the grid. One MWh of electricity fed into the grid from renewable sources equals one guarantee of origin.
The authorized body for issuing, circulating, and redeeming guarantees of origin in Ukraine is the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Public Utilities.
