On February 28, sky watchers around the globe witnessed a rare celestial event — seven planets aligned in a single line. This planetary formation, often referred to as a "planet parade," created an incredible visual spectacle in the night sky, capturing the attention of both astronomy enthusiasts and casual observers, writes Mint.

The parade featured Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Mercury, and Saturn, which appeared relatively close to one another when viewed from Earth. If humans were situated on Jupiter's moon or one of the planets in the TRAPPIST-1 system, we would have witnessed a completely different view of the planet parade.

While some of these planets could be seen with the naked eye, a telescope was needed to observe the entire group simultaneously.

The optimal viewing time occurred approximately 45 minutes after sunset, providing a brief yet beautiful opportunity to observe this cosmic arrangement. According to astronomers, such alignment will not occur again until 2040.

The planets of the solar system revolve around the Sun at varying speeds but in the same plane. This configuration is a result of how the solar system formed about 4.6 billion years ago from a massive ring of gas and dust. Over time, these planets have continued to orbit along this path. Occasionally, the arrangement of several planets becomes visible from Earth, creating the illusion of a straight line in the sky.

However, as exoplanet researcher David Armstrong explained, the planets are not constantly positioned in a perfectly straight line within the solar system. While such formations can occur, they are even rarer than the alignment we observed in this instance.
