The Frankivsk District Court of Lviv announced a verdict on December 24, 2024, regarding a serviceman who repeatedly left his military unit without permission.
The defendant attributed his actions to difficult financial circumstances and an inability to earn a living, as stated in the verdict published on the Opendatabot platform.
The man first left the unit on June 27, 2023, when he did not return after rehabilitation. In the following months, he violated the statutory order three more times: in September, October-December 2023, and from December 2023 to October 2024. During this period, the serviceman was outside the unit without legal grounds.
During the trial, the man admitted his guilt and expressed remorse, explaining that after his injury, he received only 615 hryvnias per month, which was catastrophically insufficient for a normal life.
Court Decision
Considering the circumstances of the case, the court took into account the defendant's participation in combat operations, his genuine remorse, and cooperation with the investigation. The serviceman was sentenced to the minimum penalty of five years in prison. At the same time, the court decided to release the man from custody until the verdict comes into effect.
The court also noted that the unit's command had violated the rights of the servicemen by not providing adequate conditions for his service after the injury.
The verdict can be appealed within 30 days. If no appeals are filed, the decision will take effect on January 21, 2025.
