In Ukraine, certain categories of citizens are entitled to free travel on public transport, including children, but only up to a specific age.
According to the Law "On Road Transport," children under 6 years old can travel for free, provided they do not occupy a separate seat. However, there are a few nuances:
One adult can carry a child under 6 years old for free in their arms.
For free travel on international routes, a birth certificate is required.
Children aged 6 to 14
In city buses, children from 6 years old can travel independently, but on intercity and international routes, they must be accompanied by adults. These children are required to purchase tickets at full price, although there are discounts for certain categories:
Children from large families;
Orphaned children and those without parental care;
School students receive a 50% discount with a student ID.
Railway Discounts
On "Ukrzaliznytsia" trips, children aged 6 to 14 travel at a 25% discount, while children under 6 travel for free if they do not occupy a separate seat. A document confirming the child's age is required for boarding the train.
Discounts for Students
Students and those in vocational schools can purchase train tickets at a 50% discount by presenting their student ID.
Important to Remember
Discounts are only valid with the appropriate documentation. It is advisable to confirm the conditions with the carriers before your trip.
