Details: Sandu claims that the authorities have evidence of large-scale vote buying, describing it as "fraud of unprecedented scale."
Direct quote: "We have clear evidence that these criminal groups aimed to buy 300,000 votes."
Details: It is important to note that the President of Moldova did not assert that vote buying had occurred—her speech left room for interpretation. She declined to answer clarifying questions.
In her speech, Maia Sandu emphasized that the "unprecedented attack on freedom and democracy" has been ongoing for several months and that it is backed by criminal organizations and foreign forces, which have "attacked our country with tens of millions of euros, lies, and propaganda." As is known, Moldovan authorities have repeatedly claimed attempts to "hack the elections" by the group of Ilan Shor, who has been convicted in Moldova for stealing a billion euros from three banks, as well as by Russian authorities, where Shor is currently hiding.
However, Maia Sandu did not make a clear statement regarding her recognition of the election results. "We are waiting for the final results and will respond with firm decisions," she stated.
As previously reported, according to the CEC, residents of Moldova voted against the European choice for their country, but there remains a chance that the constitutional referendum on EU integration will be successful due to the diaspora.
Additionally, preliminary vote counts indicate that Moldova is heading to a second round of presidential elections, where Sandu will face pro-Russian candidate Alexander Stoianoglo.
