They not only report on events at the front, but also frequently participate directly in conflicts: loading a "Grad" or attempting to intercept a drone using electronic warfare.
The first known casualty among propagandists occurred back in March 2022 – it was Vladimir Ivanov, an employee of the Russian Ministry of Defense's press service. There were not many details about his death. In June of the same year, Sergey Postnov, head of the propaganda department of the National Guard, was killed in battles near Hostomel, and in October, another propagandist, Alexey Ilyashevich, who was involved in combat operations alongside the "DPR people's militia," died in Avdiivka, Donetsk region.
In November 2022, Kremlin propagandist Oleg Klokov, who worked for channels such as Channel One, Moscow 24, and Russia Today, was killed. His car, stolen from journalists of the Ukrainian channel "Obshchestvennoe. Kherson," became a target for a strike on the Antonovsky Bridge.
A significant number of casualties among propagandists resulted from drones and strikes on the positions of the occupiers. For instance, in July 2023, Rostislav Zhuravlev, a war correspondent for "RIA Novosti," who had been an active participant in Russian aggression since 2014, was killed, and in November of the same year, Boris Maksudov, who worked for the channel "Russia 24," was killed in the occupied territory of the Zaporizhia region. There were also casualties among propagandists in the rear. Notable Z-blogger Vladlen Tatarsky (Maxim Fomin), who participated in the activities of illegal armed formations of the DPR and LPR, died in April 2023 from an explosion in a St. Petersburg café.
In December 2023, former Ukrainian people's deputy and now Russian propagandist Ilya Kiva was shot dead in the Moscow region. According to media reports, his liquidation is attributed to the Ukrainian special services.
