Approximately 15 thousand Ukrainians have been unable to enter Germany over the past two years, reports Politeka.net.

According to information from the publication Euractiv, which cites government statistics, Ukrainians account for 19.1% of those denied entry to Germany since August 2023. This is the second highest figure after Syrians (19.8%). In 2023, a total of 35.6 thousand foreigners were not allowed entry at the German border, while in 2022, the figure was already 45 thousand, among which over 15 thousand were Ukrainians, as reported by Politeka.

"The results are surprising, as Ukrainians fleeing from Russia's invasion of their country typically can obtain protection and temporary residence in any EU country. They are also allowed to travel within the Schengen zone," writes Euractiv.

However, according to representatives of the German Ministry of the Interior, most refusals to Ukrainians are related to illegal attempts to change their place of residence without prior permission. For instance, some Ukrainians are trying to move to Germany from other EU countries where they have already received refugee status. If such a change of residence occurs without the proper authorization, it serves as grounds for denying entry.

There have also been cases of refusals due to a lack of necessary documents, even for tourist trips within the Schengen zone.
