Law enforcement officials have announced suspicions against the head of the transport department of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council.
The police of the Ivano-Frankivsk region reported that the official, utilizing his position, organized a scheme to embezzle funds over the course of a year.
He submitted a request to the financial department of the city council for an additional 1.5 million UAH to establish bus stops without proper calculations and in violation of pricing regulations. Local spouses were involved in the scheme: a 30-year-old woman from Frankivsk, who registered as an individual entrepreneur and signed a contract for the work, and her husband, who set up the bus stops using cheap materials.
The materials in the completed work reports were overpriced, and the official did not verify their costs, signing off on the reports instead. As a result, 600,000 UAH from the budget was spent. During the search, law enforcement officials seized documents and other physical evidence.
The Ivano-Frankivsk regional prosecutor's office reported that the official and the private entrepreneur have been accused of embezzling property by abusing their official positions, involving a group of individuals, as well as legalizing property obtained through criminal means.
The suspect has been in charge of the transport department since 2019, and in 2023, his annual salary in this position amounted to 406,000 UAH.
